Winter at Golden Gardens Park

Ten years ago, when I lived in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood, I was in between things.

In between relationships. In between apartments I actually liked. At the end of one job and the beginning of another.

In between the earth and the sky.

Golden Gardens Park on a walk

That’s just how I feel when I walk at Golden Gardens Park in Ballard this time of year. In between earth and sky. In between urban and wild.

In the off-season, it’s almost all yours. A quiet, pebbly beach on the edge of a city. Just you and the seagulls, lulled into an inevitable state of reflection by the sound of gentle waves.

Golden Gardens is a bit of a drive from my current home in West Seattle, but it’s still my favorite place to go when I’m feeling in between.
