The town of Chemainus on Vancouver Island is famed for it’s beautiful murals and professional Chemainus Theatre that puts on six shows a year. It’s only about an hour north of Victoria and 20 minutes south of Nanaimo, so it’s an easy stop if you’re touring the south end of the island. And if your visit includes an overnight stay, you’ve got a really nice inn to stay in, right on the edge of downtown.
On our recent visit to Chemainus we wanted to be close to the Chemainus Theatre and all of the downtown murals, so we opted for the Chemainus Inn— a modern, independently-owned Best Western Plus hotel just a few blocks from the theatre. We were struck by what a great value this inn is, especially if your trip is for the theatre (they offer great-priced packages) and particularly if you’re traveling as a family.
The Chemainus Inn has suites with separate bedrooms and sleep sofas. With kitchens. And a complimentary breakfast with everything from yogurt/ granola to scrambled eggs and waffles. And fair-trade, organic coffee in the lobby all day long, which is enough to make this girl’s heart sing. (My needs are quite simple, really–good coffee and free, fast wifi.) The beds are comfortable with fluffy duvets and pillows, and their wifi is free (did I already mention that?) The indoor saltwater pool, hot tub and fitness center are open until 10pm. Pets accepted! And perhaps best of all, the inn is clearly service-oriented.
