The KootenayRockies region is one of the most stunningly gorgeous areas in British Columbia, and also one of the least visited.
Known for its scenic natural beauty and plentiful outdoor adventure opportunities, the region boasts several world-class ski resorts (known as the Powder Highway) where the powder is dry and ski lift lines are short. Snowboarders find plenty of powder to their liking here as well. In the warmer summer months, the Kootenays draw outdoor enthusiasts to its many national and provincial parks for hiking, hot springs and fishing.
The only practical way to tour this region is by car, and fortunately the Kootenays are served by a great highway system (though public services are few). The friendly and lively town of Nelson makes a great base from which to explore and a fine cultural destination in its own right; there are evidently more artists per capita in Nelson than any other town in Canada.
